Patients of Mental Illness Might Have to leave Assisted Living Facilities

A law which was partly ignored across the assisted living facilities based in North Carolina can render many mentally ill patients almost homeless. As per the Medicaid laws, it is illegal to keep too many mentally ill patients at the assisted living facilities, along with most of the elderly people living at such assisted living facilities.
These Medicaid laws have become a reason of worry for the families of mentally ill patients, as per the estimates, around 1200 mentally ill patients will be forced to leave the assisted living facilities, throughout North Carolina, due to the Medicaid laws. Almost forty assisted living facilities will be affected across North Carolina including three major facilities in the Charlotte area.
It has been made clear that any patient diagnosed with mental illness living in an Institute of Mental Illness (IMD) will not receive the Medicaid coverage.
