Snake venom website launched by WHO to bring down snake related deaths

Every year more than 100,000 deaths are caused due to poisonous snakes and in order to bring this figure down, WHO has launched a website. It offers a database of approved anti venom for treating 2.5 million people suffering from venomous bites each year. Anti venom are antidotes which are created from venom itself.
There have been reports of doctors and patients losing confidence in several anti venom due to their inappropriateness. The areas which are in need of anti venom are South-east Asia, South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa.
Majority of snake deaths are caused due to lack of treatment and if timely anti-venom is administered, deaths and serious complications such as amputation or paralysis can be avoided.
